Illness and Absence

If your child is away from school due to illness please let us know by telephone or letter. If we do not hear from you then the school will call to check why your child is absent. This will ensure the safety of our pupils. If you need your child to be away from school for any other reason, please discuss this with the school office. The Education Welfare Officer checks our registers every week and will visit you if your child has frequent or long absences.

Since September 2013, schools can no longer grant leave of absence during term time unless there are explicit exceptional circumstances. Any requests must be made in writing to the headteacher.

You must send a note or telephone if you wish to take your child out of school during the school day. A verbal message from a child is not acceptable. Children must be collected from the school office by a known adult. When collecting your child during the school day you will be asked to complete a form indicating the reason for your child’s absence.

We employ a Pastoral Support Worker who is responsible for checking registers on a daily basis. She will contact parents/carers if there are concerns regarding your child/children’s attendance.
