Katie Morag

Key Stage 1 ~ Exploring the Katie Morag stories

As part of our Geography topic this half term we have been reading the Katie Morag stories to help us learn about life on a small Scottish island.  Each class has read a variety of Katie Morag stories and the children are enjoying finding out about Katie’s life on the Isle of Struay.

Some of our Year 2 children have recently reviewed ‘Katie Morag delivers the mail’.  They all agree that it is an excellent story and recommend it for children ages 3-7 years old.  We hope you enjoy reading our reviews and think about picking up a Katie Morag story next time you see one.

In our Art lessons we have been practising landscape drawing and learning about perspective.  Year 1 and 2 have drawn landscapes of the real Isle of Struay from photos, including the new pier and the ferry which feature in the stories.

We have looked at the illustrations in the Katie Morag stories and tried to paint watercolour versions like the artist as well as producing our own paintings of Katie Morag.
